What’s Happening?

We are having some much welcomed rain today – we haven't had nearly as much of a drought as the East of England, but we still have much less grass than we normally do at this time of year, and the cattle are still demanding extra feeding, not least because we have lots of calves running about, so their mothers are having to produce lots of milk to feed them. We have six Dexter calves – Bluebonnet, Blossom, Buddleia, Buckthorn, Beryl and Betony, and two Herefords, Bluebell and Bunny. If you see something of a B theme running through, it is our way of remembering which year they were born.

All the lambs have arrived now – with only one difficult birth, one of our oldest ewes, Holly, had to have a caesarian, and we had to bottle feed her two lambs for a couple of days while she got over it. Once she got back on her feet, though, she took over like the experienced mother she is. I'm afraid we couldn't resist naming the two lambs Kate and Pippa, as they are beautiful little girls who both look as if they are wearing tiaras! Mother and daughters all running around the cottages now.

Bookings are very healthy this year – we still have a bit of space in July, and quite a lot for September and October, which are often our loveliest months... give us a ring and book your Indian Summer break!
It's nearly the Summer Holidays! We always know that time is coming when the Royal Cornwall Show is upon us – we have just returned from a long and sun-drenched day there. It was as lively and interesting a day as it always is – very much a traditional agricultural show in a county which still has farming at its heart. Encouraging to see lots of evidence of smaller organic farmers... not so sure about the Camel Polo in the main ring, though, I've seen more exciting paint dry!
